European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education
For all our live Clinical TMS Certification Courses (onsite and online) an application has been made to the EUROPEAN UNION OF MEDICAL SPECIALISTS (https://www.uems.eu) for accreditation by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of CME credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
American CME
Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credit to AMA credit can be found at www.ama-assn.org/education/earn-credit-participation-international-activities.
Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC®s are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
TMS Certification
Our International Clinical TMS Certification Courses are also officially recognized by the Dutch-Flemish Brain Stimulation Foundation for TMS Certification, including accreditation as TMS prescriber (TMS professional) as well as TMS technician (TMS operator)
Faculty members of the International Clinical TMS Certification Course co-authored and fully comply with the recommendations provided by the IFCN (International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology) committee for training in the practice of non-invasive brain stimulation (Fried et al., 2020).
Who is authorized to offer TMS therapy?
In most countries, rTMS is prescribed by medical specialists such as psychiatrists or neurologists (or sometimes also other physicians). In some countries, TMS prescribers may include all health care professionals authorized to treat patients with psychological disorders, including medical specialists, but also psychotherapists, clinical psychologists, clinical neuropsychologists.
Many countries distinguish between TMS prescribers and TMS technicians who are operating the TMS device under supervision of a TMS prescriber. These TMS technicians are for example nurse practitioners, lab assistants or physician’s assistants.
Importantly, following our or any TMS Certification Courses is no replacement for a recognized clinical qualification / profession required to prescribe TMS therapy or to be registered as a healthcare professional within the healthcare sector of a given country. Our International Clinical TMS Certification does not replace or substitute any potential national regulation regarding the authorized use of TMS in a clinical setting. TMS Certification Courses and accredited CME activities are offered solely for educational purposes and do not constitute any form of certification of (clinical) competency.
